Remember California?

Lately a lot has been written about the regulated jurisdictions in the US (New Jersey, Delaware, Nevada) and the online gaming battle going on in Pennsylvania.  Has everyone forgotten about California?  For a while there, all signs pointed to California being one of the leaders in US online gaming legalization.  Then the tribal interests and land based operators and lotteries and legislators all got involved and things seemed to bog down in the Golden State.  It was almost as if California was in danger of being forgotten in the online gaming conversation.

According to Chris Grove at Online Poker Report, our old friends at PokerStars are about to put California right back in the center of the US online gaming map.  Jason Somervile and Daniel Negreanu will host a live demo at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Sacramento on May 21 from 10am – 12pm.
The demonstration, which will include the chance to play against the pros using play-money will come just one day after a joint Senate / Assembly informational hearing for online poker. The demonstration will occur in parallel with the Capitol Weekly California Gaming Conference. The conference is expected to bring together key stakeholders in California’s online poker debate and should provide an interesting vantage point for the impact of the previous day’s hearing according to Online Poker Report.
Online Poker Report has more in depth coverage and analysis here – I urge you to check out their fantastic work on the subject.  With a little luck, maybe in the years to come we’ll all be safe and warm in L.A. playing online poker in potentially the first state to have sufficient liquidity on its own to make a real go of things.
